Just received a UPS email that my Raspberry Pi has been delivered! Unfortunately I am stuck at work at my desk. I can't wait to get home and taste my Pi.
I will be sure to post my unboxing excitement and where it takes me. I have no idea what I am going to do with it as this point, but it should be fun.
Comment below if you have ordered one and if you have received it.
Update: The Pi is awesome! I was able to get it up an running and ready to start playing. I will post about it in the next day or two.
The more I use my Pi, the less I am impressed with it... not from a hardware point of view (it is perfectly fine), but from a use-case point of view.
ReplyDeleteIt is just a little underpowered for GUI web browsing (until the accelerated X server arrives), CPU is too slow for compute tasks.
It has a GPIO port but lacks the real-time abilities for fun stuff.
It isn't low powered enough for long term battery operation, yet doesn't have enough on-board power to have a USB powered 2.5" HDD attached
The audio isn't of high quality (at least through headphones) and it also pops and clicks, so it is no good as a media player.
But I still find myself SSHed into it and playing around with things.
I have to agree with you. I feel like most stuff I am doing I can easily do in a virtual machine. But I recently came up with a great idea that I will be posting about soon. It involves a CommandIR. I still haven't gotten a chance to play with the GPIO but it should come in handy for home automation or something. I saw Adafruit has a nice breadboard breakout for the GPIO.
DeleteI think the Audio will improve over time. Before buying it though they made it seem like the audio and video worked.
Have you tried with a USB powered hub? I should try that. I think you can setup the SD card to boot from a USB HDD.
I have been SSHing into it from everywhere including my tablet. I hope the ideas will come.
